In his session, Dr. Trent Stellingwerff, Chief Performance Officer at the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, will share research-driven insights on how coaches can best support athletes’ health and long-term performance during this critical time. With extensive expertise in physiology, nutrition, and female health and performance, Dr. Stellingwerff brings decades of experience working with Olympic and professional teams across multiple sports.
Dr. Smith is a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University and a member of the Female Athlete Science and Translational Research (FASTR) Program. Her work focuses on resistance training, neuromuscular fatigue, and the menstrual cycle’s impact on performance. She is dedicated to advancing research and coaching strategies to better support female athletes.
Dr. McCleery, Ph.D., is Co-Director of the UW Center for Leadership in Athletics and a Professor of Practice at the University of Washington. Her work focuses on sport leadership, coach development, and advancing equity and well-being in youth and collegiate athletics.
Drawing from her experience as both an Olympian and head coach, Hilary Stellingwerff will share practical strategies for keeping athletes healthy and thriving. She’ll explore how to apply performance science in day-to-day coaching, monitor training loads effectively, and build team cultures rooted in strong values, positive language, and athlete autonomy. Now in her sixth year leading the University of Victoria’s cross country and track programs, Hilary has guided teams to multiple podium finishes and coached for Canadian National Teams.
Kate Kelley Schneider will share practical strategies to help athletes strengthen mental resilience, sharpen focus, and perform with confidence. Drawing on her four pillars—Breathwork, Visualization, Mindfulness, and The Feedback Loop—Kate will guide coaches and athletes in cultivating the mindset skills needed to control what they can, release what they can’t, and conserve energy for what matters most.
Courtney Meldrum, Head XC and T&F Coach at Lone Peak High School, will share how she built a thriving team culture that grew from 9 to over 90 athletes in just over a decade. Under her leadership, Lone Peak has earned four consecutive top-four NXN finishes. Her approach centers on inclusivity, gratitude, purpose, and relationships—showing that winning is the natural outcome of a strong culture.
Michael Herrmann will share how he’s built successful programs in a smaller school setting, leading North Salem to conference championships and state titles. With experience developing athletes across all event groups, he’ll highlight ways to maximize talent when numbers are limited. Herrmann will also cover strategies for creating strong team culture and academic success alongside athletic achievement. Coaches will leave with practical ideas to help their athletes thrive, no matter the size of their program.
