Michael Herrmann brings 14 years of coaching experience, including 12 at North Salem High School and two at McNary High School. A graduate of Western Oregon University (B.S. in Exercise Science) and Willamette University (M.A.T.), he currently teaches PE and weight training at North Salem. Herrmann began his career as a volunteer assistant in track and field before moving into assistant coaching roles in both cross country and track, and eventually taking the helm as head coach for both programs.
He was named the 2025 Central Valley Conference Girls Track and Field Head Coach of the Year and is a two-time All-Mid Valley Cross Country Coach of the Year. He has also earned Conference Assistant Track & Field Coach of the Year honors four times.
Under Herrmann’s leadership, North Salem track and field has captured four conference championships and two 5A state titles (2019 and 2021). His 2019 squad made history as the only team in Oregon to score in all 17 events at the OSAA State Track & Field Championships. His cross country program has also reached the state podium, earning trophies in 2018 and 2019, along with the 2018 5A All-Academic First Place Team Award (3.98 GPA).
Since 2011, Herrmann has coached 16 of North Salem’s top 20 all-time girls’ cross country athletes and 14 of the top 20 boys. Over his career, he has guided 12 all-state distance athletes, including three individual state champions.
Michael lives in Salem, Oregon with his wife, Danica, and their two children, Krew and Oakleigh
