Wildwood Wednesday Video Replays

Girls Talk led by Marie Markham - May 6th

Coach  Marie and the Lincoln High School girls are having conversations   around critical topics the young female distance runner faces.  Together,  the girls and Coach Marie talk about running through a  changing body,  menstrual cycle, self confidence, body image and more.  Being a lifelong  teacher and runner, Marie has developed a system to  bring awareness  around topics while also fostering deep conversations  within each of her  "Girls Talk". During this mini Zoom session, Marie  will walk through  the importance of "Girls Talk" and how you could  start preparing for  implementation during this time away from your  athletes..

Athletic Identity by Kara Bazzi - May 13th

Athletic identity can be a powerful source of pride, motivation and  confidence. However, if an athlete hasn't developed other parts of their  identity and/or if they hold a limited athletic identity, they can be  vulnerable to mental health concerns if/when there is a change in their  sport experience. This mini zoom lesson will offer coaches an identity  exercise that they can utilize with their athletes (and can benefit from  themselves!) as a preventative tool in bolstering healthy self esteem.  This is an especially relevant time for coaches to engage in this work  with their athletes as school and sports have limited access and likely  have brought identity concerns to the forefront.

Identity activity questions are posted below.

Creating a Long Term Vision by Eric Dettman- May 20th

When Coach Dettman first entered the Lincoln program 6 years ago, 21:15  was the time you had to run to be a varsity athlete.  Fast forward 6  years to this past season and they had 19 girls run faster than that and  competed at the Nike Cross National Meet.  He came into the program  with a vision on how to create an environment that kids wanted to be  apart of and work hard at the same time.  During his short session he'll  talk a bit about what that vision was and some of the steps he took to  get his team to that level.

Coaching Athletes to Train and Race with a Period by Elizabeth Carey - June 10th

Menstrual cycles are an important indicator of health and performance   for female athletes. Yet they're still considered a taboo topic, even as   athletes and researchers are pushing conversations about periods to  the  forefront. This mini-Zoom will offer a refresher on the cycle; a   breakdown of physiological symptoms through each phase; plus actionable   tips so coaches can empower their athletes to train and race stronger   and smarter with their bodies, not against them.

What Girls Need From Coaches: A Female-Centered Approach to Coaching led by Melody Fairchild - June 17th

Covid19 has, interestingly and helpfully, nudged us all toward the most  important reason to run: for the Love of it. I have always taught, in my  camps and club, that with this as our foundational reason for running,  we are almost guaranteed a lifelong relationship with the sport. Most  often, girls will express their desire to run "is to be with my  friends." Girls crave meaningful connection - with themselves and with  others. I enjoy affirming coaches and athletes alike, that this is a  worthy purpose for serving as a coach: to connect and inspire  - and  create an atmosphere which welcomes and makes space for the sharing our  personal stories. I look forward to discussing the power of connection!

Changing the Landscape of Women in Coaching led by Charlotte Lettis Richardson, Melissa Hill and Laura Caldwell - June 24th

Learn more about the Women's Running Coaches Collective (WRCC). Founders  of the WRCC, Charlotte Lettis Richardson, Melissa Hill and Laura  Caldwell take a look at the state of women who coached running and Track  and Field in 2020. They will address questions such as where are we  (female coaches) going and how do we get there? Why do we need more  women coaches? How do we successfully change the landscape? This session  is for female and male coaches alike.
