Lauren DeAngelis: Head Girls Cross Country Coach (York Community High School - Elmhurst, IL)

In 2025, Lauren DeAngelis will enter her 15th year coaching cross country and 11th year coaching at York Community High School. Coach DeAngelis began coaching cross-country and distance track events at Lake Park High School in 2010. During her three years at Lake Park High School, she coached multiple state-qualifying teams in cross country, including the 2012 Class 3A Girls Cross Country state runner-up team, and multiple state-qualifying athletes in distance track events, including state qualifiers in the 800, 1600, 4X800, and 2012 Class 3A state champion.
Since coming to York High School in 2014, and focusing on the girl's cross country team, she has worked to maintain the reputation of the “Lady Dukes” as being one of the premier programs in the State of Illinois leading her team to 9 consecutive appearances at the Class 3A state meet. During the past five seasons, Coach DeAngelis guided the “Lady Dukes” to unprecedented success.
During the 2020-2021 cross-country season, the York girls' team was undefeated, culminating in being crowned the 2020 Shazam Class Division 3 State Champions while navigating the challenges of COVID-19.
Coach DeAngelis and the “Lady Dukes” continued their undefeated streak during the 2021-2022 campaign resulting in earning the Dukes the 3A IHSA State Championship with 4 athletes earning all-state honors. This team went on to win the program's first-ever Midwest Region NXR Team Championship. The 2022-2023 York girls team earned State Runner-Up honors while scoring the 3rd lowest score ever at the IHSA 3A state meet with 3 athletes earning all-state honors. During the 2023 - 2024, the Lady Dukes brought back the 3A State Championship to York, led by 4 athletes earning all-state honors. This team earned a Nationals NXN at-large bid to culminate their successful season. Finally, during the 2024 - 2025 season, the Lady Dukes earned team State Runner-Up honors in a record-close year - only 3 points separated the top 3 teams! The team was led by 2 athletes earning all-state honors, including the state runner-up.
Since 2010 Coach DeAngelis has coached teams to 7 conference titles, 6 regional titles, 5 sectional titles, and 12 state appearances. As a head coach, Coach DeAngelis has helped mentor 17 All-State cross country runners, 9 of whom placed in the top 10 at the Class 3A IHSA State Meet since 2010.
Personal
When Coach DeAngelis is not leading the PE/Health/Driver Education Department at York or coaching, she enjoys being active and spending time with her family. She resides in Wheaton with her husband Frank, 10-year-old daughter Hayden, and 11lb Havanese dog Gizmo.
